2010, American Journal of Infection ControlCitation Excerpt :The expanding armamentarium of vaccines against the various serotypes of the bacteria may contribute to better prevention of this devastating disease in crowded population and not only military personnel. Our results are consistent with the findings of studies in the armed forces of Italy13 and Canada.14 In Italy, the immunization program for military personnel was prompted by findings of a high incidence of serogroup C disease, and it proved to have a high protective efficacy, both epidemiologically and in terms of immunologic response (90% and 91%, respectively).
