Historical Milestones in the Management of Stable Coronary Artery Disease over the Last Half Century
2018, American Journal of MedicineCitation Excerpt :In 1977, Gruentzig2 performed the first successful PTCA in a patient with stable angina, with balloon catheters that, when inflated, dilated stenotic coronary artery segments. Thereafter, 6 trials were undertaken in the 1980s comparing CABG with PTCA.25-30 Overall, these trials and subsequent meta-analyses found little difference in outcomes.31
