  • The estimates in each cell are estimated birth weight of offspring of first generation migrant mothers minus that of second generation migrant mothers. For each model, the three contrasts were derived from a single regression model in which all ethnic groups were included as described in Methods.

  • Model 1—Adjusted for sex.

  • Model 2—Adjusted for sex and gestational age.

  • Model 3—Adjusted for sex, number of previous live and stillborn deliveries and maternal age.

  • Model 4—Model 3 plus gestational age.
