Infant homicide in the USA between 1940 and 2005

Riggs and Hobbs have argued that that the recorded increase in the rate of homicide of infants under the age of 1 year in the USA between 1940 and 2005 was due to the increased recognition of fatal child abuse as the cause of death.1 They based their conclusion on a comparison between the rates of accidental death, which fell dramatically, and the steady rise in infant homicide in the same period.
