Dragano et al1 analysed cross-country variations in work stress, and the associations between work stress and depression. Their second research question was ‘Does the association of work stress with depression vary by the type of welfare regime?’ Twelve European countries, and approximately 10 000 survey respondents, were included in the analysis. Countries were grouped into four welfare regimes: liberal, conservative, Scandinavian and Southern.
