Every three years, the World Federation of Public Health Associations1 holds its World Public Health Congress. Between 27 April and 1 May 2009, its 12th Congress2 will take place in Istanbul together with the host country’s National Association Conference, as usual. The central theme is “Making a difference in Global Public Health: Education, Research and Practice”. More than 2500 public health professionals from all over the world and the presidents of more than 70 national and regional member associations are expected in this picturesque city between Asia and Europe, a stimulating symbol of the disquieted contemporary world.
