LOWER LIMB FRACTURES IN THE UK
Incidence rates of lower limb fractures in the UK from 1990 to 2001 varied widely by age and fracture type, but the distribution of fracture types was generally similar for men and women within age groups. Fractures occurred with an overall incidence of approximately 3.4 per 1000 person years in women and 2.9 per 1000 person years in men. Many risk factors were identified, of which dementia accounted for the highest population attributable risk for femur fractures among people aged 80 years and over, while smoking was the most important risk factor identified among 50–79 year old people. The many and varied risk factors dictate that a multifactorial approach must be taken if prevention is to be successful. (

The prevalence of glaucoma in Bangladesh is high, although it accounts for only a small proportion of blindness.
