The high variability in the guidelines and doses of supplementation in different studies makes it difficult to compare and interpret previous studies. Nevertheless, as has been suggested by other authors [9,13,29,56,60], we observed the greater percentage of haemoconcentration at delivery in the group of women with the presence of iron reserves at pre-pregnancy, and who had early supplementation. However, these differences were not statistically significant due, probably, to the low numbers of study subjects.
