Dynamic identities and self-perception of aging: The case of Turkish cosmetic surgery patients
2021, Journal of Aging StudiesCitation Excerpt :A “normal” woman is supposed to have a healthy outlook, and she is responsible for maintaining a healthy and beautiful appearance (Foucault, 1988). Researchers have recently deviated from the traditional perspective of looking for psychopathologies among women who desire to look younger and prettier, and instead have acknowledged the role of body image in one's psychological, social, and sexual well-being (Fooken, 1994; Honigman & Castle, 2006). There are many accounts linking body image with one's self-esteem, especially among aging people who may try to restore a youthful appearance (Figueroa, 2003).
Appearance Satisfaction as a Predictor of Specific Sexual Problems and Associated Distress
2021, Journal of Sexual MedicineCitation Excerpt :Results demonstrated that appearance satisfaction was associated with reporting fewer sexual problems (H2), and specifically, with a smaller likelihood of reporting problems with sexual lack of enjoyment, excitement, and climax (H3). These findings are consistent with past research that has found that acceptance of one's body is associated with more sexual enjoyment,17 and that feeling negative about one's body is associated with decrements in orgasm,18,19 and overall sexual functioning61. Interestingly, and contrary to past research,17 we did not find an association between appearance satisfaction and lack of sexual interest (H3).

Finally, BS was found to be associated with a positive perception of body sexuality and with psychological well-being among 60 German adults between the ages of 58 and 85 (Fooken, 1994; quality score +). In all of the above studies, individual interviews (IIs) were carried out from a convenience sample (see Table 4).
