Maternal tissue blood flow and oxygen saturation in pre-eclampsia and intrauterine growth restriction
2014, European Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive BiologyCitation Excerpt :It has been shown that women with pre-eclampsia are at higher risk of developing hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases such as isachemic heart disease later in life, independent of other possible factors, including socioeconomic and behavioural factors [17–20]. It has also been shown that women with growth-restricted babies (without pre-eclampsia) are more likely to experience elevated blood pressure [21–23]. Markers of endothelial cell activation such as vascular cellular adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1), intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), endothelin-1, cellular fibronectin, and E-selectin are elevated in the maternal plasma of women with both conditions [24,25].
