For NO2 and SO2 multivariate models were adjusted for sex, months, relative humidity, physical activity, systolic blood pressure, cardiovascular drug use (drugs for hypertension or heart diseases), and C reactive protein. For O3 an additional adjustment for temperature was done. Same day 0–8 am corresponds to the average of the measurements of pollutants between 0 am and 8 am, just before the medical examination time. Three day mean D0,D-1,D-2 corresponds to the average concentration of air pollutants over three days; on the same day of the examination and two days before. N = n1/n2: number of non-smokers/number of smokers. ORs with 95% CI were given for an increase of 5 (μg/m3) of NO2, SO2, and O3.
