INEQUALITIES, GLOBALISATION, VIOLENCE, AND SOUTH AFRICA PART 2

In this issue several contributions conspire to overlap.

In an Editorial linked to a Glossary, Richard Smith takes Labonte and Sanger to task for bringing a defensive approach to the globalisation debate, and argues for a more robust approach to identifying the strengths and weaknesses of globalisation as well as the opportunities for public health.
See pages 650, 655

In another Editorial linked to a paper, Carmen Vives-Cases explores the issues surrounding contemporary intimate partner violence that affect women in Spain. In the actual paper, Isabel Ruiz-Pérez and fellow authors conclude that identifying the factors that have an influence on the response adopted by abused women allows us to better understand the support needed by them to abandon an abusive relationship. Vives-Cases describes a novel approach to constructing an epidemic index for intimate partner violence based on fluctuating numbers of murdered women from year to year.
